Pre-School Exams and Sports Physicals
August gets a bit crazy for us here with everyone
trying to get in their children in for pre-school
physicals and/or sports physicals before school
starts.

In order to avoid the mad rush to get a last minute
appointment (and experiencing the longer wait
times when trying to accommodate large numbers
of last minute appointment requests), or worse, to
avoid the need to go elsewhere due to full
schedules, and to ensure your child gets seen
before school starts we are recommending the
following:

In an effort to ensure that all of your children are
able to complete their pre-school physicals and
ensure they are current on their vaccines before
school starts in the fall we are STRONGLY
encouraging you to call in BEFORE June to get your
appointment/s scheduled for the months June or
July when we typically have more availability.

We are also encouraging everyone who has a child
who needs a sports physical as well to have it
scheduled along with their pre-school visit in order
to save time and to benefit from the comprehensive
physical they will receive from our Board Certified
Family & Sports Medicine Physician, Dr. Jana Brock.

Summer at RainTree

Summer is a busy and fun filled time for everyone.
As we move into the summer months there are
some things you need to remember:

Holidays:

May 27th - Memorial Day. We will be closed in
observance of the brave men and women who
fought and died for us.

July 4th - Thursday. We will be closed in celebration
of our independence.

September 2nd - Labor Day. We will be closed in
order to say goodby to summer and prepare for fall.

Summer Hours:

Unless otherwise posted our hours of operation are
8:30 -4:30 Monday through Friday, by appointment
only.

We are open Saturdays from 8:30-12:00 for SICK
visits only. You must call in on Saturday morning.
Appointments are scheduled sequentially and you
will be given the next available appointment at that
time.

Important insurance notification
Due to the many changes in healthcare, many of our families now have high deductible plans with HSA or FSA benefits. As a result, in addition to required co-pays, we will also be collecting payments for deductibles and coinsurances for visits that would be applied to your respective insurance deductible. We encourage you as parents/guardians to get to know your insurance benefits well. Please note that while we will make every attempt to verify your insurance coverage and request authorization when deemed necessary this is NOT a guarantee of payment from your insurance carrier. You will be responsible for payment in full for all charges incurred and not paid by your insurance company.

VFC Program changes eff. 1/1/12

Effective 1/1/12, the state has changed the requirements needed to qualify for state subsidized vaccines via the Vaccines for Children program. Please take a moment to review the memo dated 12/27/11 detailing the changes at: http://www.dshs.state.tx.us/immunize/tvfc/default.shtm

Meet the Doctor
Meet the Doctor nights occur the first Monday of every
month. Start time is 6:00. Please call us at (214) 644-
0280 and let us know to expect you. We truly enjoy
meeting new parents and prospective parents and
answering your many questions. We look forward to
seeing you then!

Sports/Camp Physical policy
RainTree Healthcare believes that helping to
evaluate and promote the health of your child is the
most important service we can provide. Because of
this, we follow the recommendations of the
American Academy of Pediatrics and advise our
parents that children should receive a complete
health assessment and full wellness physical ("Well
Child Visit") each year.

We do NOT perform separate abbreviated or
assembly line exams - often called "sports
physicals." The annual health assessment and
physical exam performed at Well Child Visits in our
office will be comprehensive and include any and all
physical exam requirements for summer camps,
competitive sports, etc. We will gladly complete the
necessary forms for these activities at that time.
Please be aware that most schools require the
sports physical be completed after May 1st for the
upcoming school year. Insurance does not cover
sports physicals and will not pay for more than one
well visit per year. If your child has had his or her
well visit prior to May 1st, s/he will be required (by
the school) to have a sports physical completed
after May 1st. We will NOT be able to complete the
form based on the well visit prior to May 1st. If you
are in this situation PLEASE call the office. We have
specific policies in place in order to make sure your
child gets his/her sports physical completed with
the same quality and comprehensiveness as we do
with all our physicals and exams.

A current annual Well Child Visit allows us to any
complete any subsequent permission/participation
forms up until the May 1st school requirement;
parents need only fax or request the forms and
they will be completed. You will be notified if we are
unable to complete the form due to the school
requirement that all sports physicals be completed
after May 1st for the upcoming school year.

This exam policy applies as long as the child is
current with the annual visit AND has not suffered
any intervening fractures, concussions, or other
major illnesses/injuries which might compromise the
medical health of a child or interfere with their
participation.

Telephone triage fee change
PLEASE NOTE: As of May 1, 2011 calls made to the after hours urgent care and triage line will be charged $15 per call. We encourage parents who are considering calling our after hours service to first consult the "Is Your Child Sick" section on the home page of this website where comprehensive answers to the majority of questions concerning your child's health can be found free of charge.
